London Lives

Historical resource - Explore the lives of London convicts from 1690 to 1800.

London Lives is a fully searchable edition of 240,000 manuscripts from eight archives and fifteen datasets, giving access to 3.35 million names. It offers insights into crime, poverty, and social policy in the metropolis, allowing users to search documents related to the lives of individuals during the period from 1690 to 1800. Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and developed by the Digital Humanities Institute at the University of Sheffield, this project also connects with the Digital Panopticon, providing a comprehensive view of the histories of London convicts.
